With a storming cover by Jikan artist, El Chivo, the latest issue of long-running independently-published comic zine from Davey Candlish, Paragon Issue 39, is seeking support now ion Kickstarter.

As ever, the crowdfunding target is low – just £200 – but the contents are of far more value, leading with the latest adventure for time travelling, demon hunting samurai, Jikan; plus there’s an extended page count for Spencer Nero as he falls to Tartarus and possibly his doom, plus Bludd and Xandi feature, too, the celestial agents on the run from both Heaven and Hell.
In This Issue…
The return of Jikan by Mark Howard and El Chivo, the time-travelling, demon-hunting samurai goes hunting down the creature that’s the root of his crusade, the demon queen Shimasu.

The former British agent and Civil Centurion Spencer Nero finds himself tumbling into Tartarus. But how will he escape? Is the end nigh? Read the latest episode as written by Greg Meldrum and illustrated by regular artist Scott Meldrum.
Also returning this issue: celestial enforcers Bludd and Xandi in “Book II : Acquisitions and Mergers” by Mark Howard, with art duties shared between Garry Wharton, Jim Croasdale and Scott Meldrum, as the story unfolds between Heaven and Hell when the agents have a pendant both the powers of above and below are desperate to recover!

Paragon is edited and published by Davey Candlish, who’s been a comics fan all my life. He was brought up on 1950s’ Eagle (his Dad was wise enough to keep his collection from his youth) and anthology comics of the 1970s and 80s. Paragon is his love letter to those days. “It’s not an homage. It’s not a pastiche,” he says. “It’s a continuation of the style of comic I loved to read as a kid and still want to read now.”
