On sale today in all good comic ships is Captain Stone #5 from Titan Comics, one of the latest titles springing from their partnership with digital publisher Madefire.
Written by Christina McCormack and Liam Sharp with art and cover by Liam, the series is moving to its conclusion, as Charlie finally comes clean to her father about just who — and what – she became following the nightclub attack when she was a model and PETA spokeswoman. Behold, the origin of THE PET!
This title has had mixed response (both in its digital and print form), but Liam said last year that both he and Christina wanted it to start as a slow-burn mystery that the reader partakes in, offering clues and hints and intrigue as to how things might resolve…
“It’s a lot easier as an idea than it is to execute,” he acknowledged in an interview about this and Titan Comics other launch Madefire title, Mono on SlackJawPunks. “… Each character has a spin on the Cap, based on their unique experiences.
“It was like a puzzle, putting it all together. The historical references are all based on fact too, so it was important everything worked as a timeline – just in case anybody ever wanted to look up the Mexico Olympics, or the various earthquakes and volcanic eruptions we mentioned…”

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
