Veteran US artist Don Perlin – perhaps best known for his work on Marvel’s Ghost Rider, The Defenders and Transformers – recently had surgery to stop bleeding in his head. Writer and editor Clifford Meth, who has previously led successful campaigns to raise money and awareness for financially challenged comics’ creators, contacted him after the operation to see how he could help.

“He indicated that he was fine,” says Clifford, “but he wasn’t. They discovered more bleeding and today, as Don described it, they removed a piece of his skull the size of a creditcard and then put in a Titanium plate.

“He’s stuck in rehab now which his Medicare and insurance do not cover. So let’s help this man.”

Clifford has launched a GoFundMe page to raise support for Don, who in recent years has focused on illustration work, t-sbirt designs and other projects.

24th December update from Clifford: “I spoke with Don & his wife briefly this a.m. There’s still some medical tests ahead but we’re hopeful. At best, this is a miserable experience–frightening and debilitating… I’ve upped the “ask” when I realized that GoFundMe/PayPal takes 5% (less than what our industry’s professional fundraisers take, though) and there will likely be unexpected expenses once Don comes home… All funds will go directly to Don.”
