Norway’s first Volda Mini Comic Con to display rare British and US comics

With successful TV shows like Supergirl and The Flash, and blockbuster movies like The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and Batman v Superman, comic book characters are more popular than ever across the globe, including Norway.

The country has a thriving comics community and Bergen has hosted the annual Raptus convention for many years.

On Saturday 2nd April, the Norsk Animasjonsentrum/Norwegian Animation Centre will celebrate this with Volda’s first ever Mini Comic Con and an exhibition displaying rare US, British and Norwegian comic books and original comic book art from the collections of British comic creator and animator Dave King (who describes himself as a “big cheese” at Raindog Studios), Gunnar Strøm and Eldar Meek (who will also have comics for sale).

The creators from Überpress publishing will be in attendance, animation student Magnus Ruud will present his original, self-published comic, “tja”, and you can meet The Amazing Spider-Man at 12 noon.

Alongside the other attractions at the Mini Comic-Con, TV screens will be showing a selection of trailers from comic book-based films and TV shows from the 1940s tthrough to today’s mega blockbusters, and music will be provided by a suitable playlist of superheroic themes!
