Gerry Anderson “UFO” convention in June

There hasn’t even a UFO Convention inspired by the Gerry Anderson TV series in the UK nearly 30 years… Until now.

While many of the show’s principals are, sadly, no longer with us (including its creator Gerry Anderson), there is still much to be said about this show, so I hope the S.H.A.D.O. Con is a success. Anderson’s first live action series, it was badly mistreated by ITV on initial release (its concept perhaps misunderstood by schedulers, who gave it short shrift and moved its airing times for episodes such as Sub Smash).

From the limited information about the event on the web site (perhaps the PR person worked for Harlington Straker Studios), it looks like that along with talks there will be models and more on display.

Raising money for cancer charity Macmillan, supported by Network who have released the series on DDV and Blu-Ray, S.H.A.D.O. Con guests include Ayshea Brough (who played a SHADO technician in the show), perhaps better known as a singer, and who only recently began appearing at British conventions.

Also scheduled are series guest star Michael Jayston (Russell Stone in The Sound of Silence), whose many credits also include the Valeyard in Doctor Who and who I most recall as played Quiller, a spy who never used a gun in the eponymous 1970s drama; and Shane Rimmer (Lieutenant Bill Johnson), who of course featured in many Gerry Anderson productions, voicing Scott Tracy in Thunderbirds.
