Just released by Titan Books is former Doctor Who script editor and Rivers of London comic co-writer Andrew Cartmel’s new novel The Vinyl Detective: Written in Dead Wax.
Titan have clearly got a lot of faith in this new title (and so they should!). Their promotions include a poster campaign on the London Underground – and he’ll be signing copies at Forbidden Planet London tomorrow.
Like Andrew’s other novels, from the description it sounds wonderfully quirky – and sinister…
He is a record collector — a connoisseur of vinyl, hunting out rare and elusive LPs. His business card describes him as the “Vinyl Detective” and some people take this more literally than others.
Like the beautiful, mysterious woman who wants to pay him a large sum of money to find a priceless lost recording — on behalf of an extremely wealthy (and rather sinister) shadowy client.
Given that he’s just about to run out of cat biscuits, this gets our hero’s full attention. So begins a painful and dangerous odyssey in search of the rarest jazz record of them all…
Andrew Cartmel is a novelist, playwright and screenwriter, and while probably best known to many downthetubes readers for his Doctor Who connections – as script editor, novelist and comic writer – his credits include scripts for The Midsomer Murders, Dark Knight and Torchwood. He’s toured as a stand-up comedian and has had a number of novels published, including a sequence of spy thrillers featuring his creation Rupert Hood.
• The Vinyl Detective: Written in Dead Wax by Andrew Cartmel is available now from all good bookshops
• Andrew will be signing The Vinyl Detective at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore on Thursday 12th May from 6 – 7.00pm
