Comics are one of the art forms being included in The Arts Foundation Futures Awards in the UK for 2020.
The Arts Foundation was set up by anonymous bequest in order to support UK-based artists from across the spectrum of the Arts. The annual Arts Foundation Futures Awards (AFFAs) gives out five £10,000 fellowships every year. These are awarded on the basis of past work and enable future development.
“2020 sees ‘Comics’ take its rightful name place on the awards table along with Visual Arts bringing its usual formidable mix of applicants,” say the Art Foundation. “As befits the title, this award includes the plethora of comic art practices in the UK both on the web and on paper.
“From monthly sequentials to graphic novels and webzines the award will include self-published and published work focusing on those that are pushing the boundaries of the artform.
“Artists, who will be a minimum of three years out of education with a track record, are nominated by both practitioners and experts involved in the art form.
“The finalists each receive £1,000 with one artist in each artform receiving the £10,000 fellowship.”
