The Liverpool Beatles Museum has just opened an extension to its exhibits, with new wing of the museum dedicated to appearances the the Fab Four have made in newspaper and magazine cartoons and comic strips from February 1963 to the present day.


Proprietor Roag Aspinall Best and comics writer Tim Quinn, who gives regular talks on the history about The Beatles in comics, opened the doors yesterday to a selected audience.
The new exhibition offers an amazing collection of world famous cartoonists are featured in the exhibition including Private Eye‘s Tony Husband, The Walking Dead‘s Charlie Adlard, Marvel Comics’ Jack Kirby, Gerald Scarfe, Carl Giles, and Dicky Howett.


The event was brought right up to date with a strip featuring The Doctor from Doctor Who in an amazing adventure with The Beatles set on 22nd November 1963, the day before the TV series first aired.
This strip won’t be published until November to tie-in to Doctor Who‘s 60th anniversary. Illustrated by Tim Keable, it brought a round of applause from today’s audience, and “Damn right too,” Tim Quinn enthuses.
“We had a great time,” commented artist Tim Keable on the opening. “The museum is fantastic!”

“The exhibition features over 100 examples of the band from newspaper cartoons, strips and comic books from 1963 to the present day,” Tim tells downthetubes. “Tony Husband has just donated a Beatle cartoon of his own to the exhibition.”
The exhibition is now open to the general public and well worth the trek to the third floor of this most authentic and delightful of museums to all things Fab.
