Best of British magazine pays tribute to “The Avengers” star, Patrick Macnee

The latest issue of Best of British magazine, available now in all good newsagents, leads with a Patrick Macnee retrospective by Chris Hallam, celebrating his role in The Avengers and beyond.

It’s an enjoyable tribute to the fondly remembered actor, whose suave style helped make the show such a success, and there are anecdotes included that I’d not previously been aware of, including his wartime experiences.

Chris also pays tribute to the late actor Jean Marsh, creator of Upstairs, Downstairs and Doctor Who guest star, and Derek Lamb reflects on the life of broadcaster and celebrity Wilfred Pickles.

Elsewhere, the magazine uncovers how Bexhill-on-Sea could have been the English Monte Carlo, relives the antics of Brighton’s forgotten pier divers, tells the story of the airman who fell from the skies, traces the history of Royal Ascot and Henley Royal Regatta, goes behind the scenes at Boom Radio, speaks to New Tricks composer Warren Bennett and celebrate 65 years of ice-cream sellers Tonibell.

Every issue of Best of British magazine comes packed with features that celebrate classic entertainment, transport, food and drink, and the great British countryside. Its readers are at the heart of what the team do. As well as taking their suggestions on board, their voices are heard through the Yesterday Remembered memoir section, along with the Postbag and Question Time pages.

The title is published by Classic Magazines, the ‘front-of-house’ e-commerce site for one of the UK’s leading independent publishers – Mortons Media Group Ltd.

Established nearly a century and a half ago, the company’s rich history began when W K Morton first brought mechanical typesetting to the heart of rural Lincolnshire.
