Comic Creator Spotlight: Artist Daniel Acuña

Here’s some early art by Daniel Acuña, a stunning cover originally commissioned for the Spanish publication, Brújula Para Tebos – Guia Viajes Por La Comicteca (“Comic Compass – A Travel Guide to the Comic Library”).

Published in 2009 by the Regional Library of Murcia, this entry on the invaluable Spanish language comic site Tebosfera notes the publication features reviews of the comics available in the library, plus articles, illustrations and three comics by young Murcian authors, including Julia Cejas and David Morales.

Daniel Acuña’s professional comic career started in Spain, on the series Claus y Simon, also published in France, written by Santiago Arcas, but he’s best known today for his work for US publishers Marvel and DC. His numerous credits include work on The Flash, Green Lantern, and X-Men Legacy. He also served as guest artist on books such as Captain America and New Avengers.

His old Spanish language blog here, not updated since 2015, is worth a look for his early work, including the designs for this knockout, nostalgic cover.

Today, you can find him on various social media, including Instagram, Facebook (Art Page here) and X, although the latter hasn’t been updated for a while.

If you have deep pockets, check out the Black Diamond Gallery site, where you might choose to grab a nifty Judge Dredd study, or some of his art created for US publishers.
