Tapas, a publishing platform home to serialised, snackable stories for mobile audiences that includes the Tapastic comics hub which features the work of some 17,000 creators, is looking for amazing original stories.
Tapas recently began to serialise the work of Andy Weir, author of The Martian, on their platform.
“We are a community who values well-crafted, engaging stories readers care about,” they say in announcement. “We are searching for previously published or unpublished pieces with the potential for frequent, serialized updates once published on Tapas.
However, if the submitted works are original, exclusive series for Tapas:
- Tapas will match creators earnings up to $10K
- Offer valid for revenue earned until 31st October 2016
Your submission should include:
- Title
- Genre
- Minimum 3 Episodes (500–1000 words per episode)
- Synopsis
- Links to your website and/or social media
The genres Tapas readers are most interested in are:
- YA Romance
- YA Fantasy
- YA Mystery/Thriller
- Slice-of-Life/relatable stories
Tapas say their readers enjoy stories with “a strong emphasis on fun, relatable characters alongside a faster-paced narrative”.
If you’re interested, you can also check out The Creature’s Cookbook and They Say I was Born a King’s Daughter on Tapas as references to engaging pace and style.
In notes on an interview with Tapas CEO Chang Kim available on SoundCloud in which he talks about the company’s search for Tapastic creator written story submissions, the company explains they’re limiting chapters to 500 to 100 words or so because “We are finding a lot of readers prefer those chapter lengths,” they say.
If you’re interested, email your submissions to submissions@tapasmedia.co. There’s no information I can find on rights or terms of publication, but presumably that will be outlined in any response from the publisher.
