Commando Comics Calendar 2020 - Cover

Commando Comics has brought its readers thrilling tales of heroism, valour and camaraderie since 1961. Still published today, with over 5200 amazing issues to its credit so far, Commando is the longest‑running British war comic, ever – and the team at DCT’s Heritage Comics are really cranking up the number of projects associated with the title.

We saw the launch of Commando Presents last year, the first volume featuring Ramsey’s Raiders stories in colour for the first time, which is still on sale. Earlier this year, DCT published The Art of Ian Kennedy, a terrific “coffee table” book featuring art from many of the veteran artist’s many DC Thomson-published stories. Now, coming later this month, we’ll see the return of “Codename: Warlord“, via issues of Commando, revived from the war comic Warlord. But we’re sure they aren’t going to stop there!

The arrival of the annual Commando Comics Calendar needed no second guessing from us as to future plans, however, and it’s great to see Ian Kennedy’s work providing the focus for the 2020 release. From his first cover in 1970, in his illustrious 70 years of working for DC Thomson, Ian has produced over 1000 breath-taking Commando covers with subjects spanning land, sea, and air.

We get a smashing selection in this calendar, which is something a treat for longtime readers, featuring artworks “By Special Request” – favourite images selected by the fans from the title’s long run.
