Commando Comics will have a presence at Thought Bubble Comic Con Digital Comic Con this weekend, and has teased some exciting news for the long-running comic – and the release of a free digital double-issue.
Thought Bubble Comic Con is an entirely virtual event this year, just like many other comics events worldwide, sideswiped by COVID-19. This year, you can watch programmed events on YouTube (unless otherwise stated), so make sure to subscribe. These include a huge range of chats with top comic creators encompassing not only major UK and US publishers, but independent comic creators, too.
As part of the event’s virtual events – presumably also to be revealed on the title’s social media channels, links below – Commando Comics has announced they will be posting Q&As, special offers, offering a free digital double-issue, and “announcing some very exciting news regarding the long-running 60th birthday”.
Fans of the comic will no doubt be wondering if this includes the return of more vintage characters from previously-published DC Thomson-owned comics such as Warlord.
Last year, Commando revived both secret agent Warlord himself, and Union Jack Jackson, along with “Braddock of the Bombers”, from Victor. The revivals were accompanied him a plethora of promotions – but although some Commando writers have hinted they were commissioned to write new stories featuring classic war comic characters, nothing further has been released.
(Similarly, a digital revival of the girls comic Spellbound made the briefest of appearances before being expunged, along with associated social media accounts).
Published by DC Thomson, Commando Comics is Britain’s longest serving war comic, printing stories of action and adventure since 1961.
Still going strong, Commando prints four issues every two weeks — two all-new issues and two classic reprints from the Gold and Silver Collections.
