Londonprintstudio, which regularly includes comic art and supports new comic artists in its events program has just announced Unfold, an exhibition highlighting the quality and variety of contemporary artists' books and designs.
The way that we see books is changing. As as we adjust to digital culture, production of book art in affordable printed paper is developing rapidly, with increasing interest in innovative structures and design. In Unfold, artists tell stories in cut out, folded, bound, unbound and manipulated formats. There are even characters that appear and disappear on the paper page. The work of 31 artists is featured, who have been inspired by everything from tragic epic stories to found objects.
There are over 50 works on display, some as multiples, others as unique works. Most are for sale.
John Phillips, Director of londonprintstudio said 'the creation of the book has evolved into an art form. We are very pleased to share the beautiful works in this exhibition.' The exhibition presents works by a range of artists working in the UK and Europe, working in a number of different genres, including selected works by artists from Italian PrintAboutMe Micro-Press. Some of the artists incorporate their own writing as well as art practice in their books. Others tell the most poetic stories without words. Works are on sale from £30 upwards.
This exhibition is presented as part of London Design Festival and will run until Saturday 2nd November. It was curated by the londonprintstudio team..
