Cult RPG “OFF” returns as game, comic and more in 2025

Beloved by fans for its haunting atmosphere, surreal storytelling, and unforgettable characters, the 2008 indie RPG OFF is making a grand return – and the physical release includes a new comic from Mortis Ghost, the developers of game.

Belgian developer Mortis Ghost and publisher Fangamer have answered the call of so many fans and are finally delivering an improved version of OFF to Nintendo Switch and Steam in 2025, introducing the cult classic to a new generation of players.

What’s more, collectors can already look forward to a physical edition of the game for the Nintendo Switch. Perfect for fans who want to immortalise this iconic title on their shelves.

OFF is one of the most influential RPGs of the last 20 years, with millions of downloads, a huge cult following and various fan translations. It’s even been cited multiple times in Toby Fox‘s UNDERTALE Art Book as an inspiration for his designs.

This definitive version features an all-new battle system, balancing improvements, as well as new areas and hidden bosses from the game’s creator, Mortis Ghost. The surreal indie RPG, originally released in French, has now also received an OFFicial English translation.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the game, OFF promises an RPG unlike anything you’ve played before. It’s a journey into a bizarre, monochromatic world where reality feels just a little… off.

From Pixels to Shelves: OFF Merch!

OFF isn’t just coming to the digital stores on Steam and Nintendo Switch in 2025, it’s also getting the deluxe treatment with a Physical Edition, a Collector’s Edition, and OFFicial Merch for fans who want to carry a piece of its surreal world into their own.

“Fangamer has published physical editions of indie games for a while now, but OFF is the first time we’ve moved into the development side for Steam and Nintendo Switch,” Ryan Alyea, at Fangamer, explains.

“Lots of us here love the game; for a long time the English fan translation was actually distributed on a forum post on Starmen.Net, the EarthBound fansite started by many of us in 1998.

“Moving a game that began as a freeware RPG Maker 2003 title to modern platforms wasn’t easy, but it felt like a perfect project for us.

“It’s a great game, and it’s very rewarding to be able to help build something that’s exciting for old fans and accessible to players who might not have found OFF otherwise.”

About the Game

OFF, one of the most influential RPGs of the last 20 years is finally coming to Nintendo Switch and Steam in 2025, featuring an all-new battle system and new areas and hidden bosses from the game’s creator, Mortis Ghost.

Take control of the Batter as he seeks to purify an uncanny and hopeless world haunted by specters, guided by a cryptic, grinning cat called The Judge.

As they move the Batter through increasingly confused zones – a farm that extracts metal from the inside of cattle, an amusement park full of people too frightened to enjoy themselves, a sugar factory with ominous smokestacks—players must reckon with The Batter’s mission themselves.
