Atlanta-based Dabel Brothers Publishing is to publish a new Mr Bean comic, set to launch in Spring 2017.
Featuring Rowan Atkinson’s Mr Bean – already a comics character thanks to the animated show in print with titles such as Mr Bean’s Entertaining Escapades and available digitally – Dabel Brothers version has a more “graphic novel” look, echoing the character’s movie incarnation.
The series will be drawn by Ricardo Jaime of the Glass House Graphics, whose other credits include Grimm Fairy Tales: Halloween 2013, FAME: Britney Spears, Unseen Justice, Immobile and Darchon.
“I have been a huge fan of Mr Bean for as long as I can remember,” said Les Dabel, VP of Business Operations with Dabel Brothers Publishing.
“The opportunity to develop this project and bring Mr Bean’s celebrated humour to life in this new format is definitely a milestone achievement for me personally, and one the Dabel Brothers team is extremely proud of.”
The live action Mr. Bean TV series first aired in the UK in January 1990, gaining a worldwide following that helped spawn two feature-length films and two animated series. With the rise of social media, Mr. Bean acquired a new generation of fans. It’s currently the second-largest TV brand on Facebook (with over 65 million fans) and has more than three million YouTube subscribers.
Dabel Brothers first became known for its adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s (HBO’s Game of Thrones) The Hedge Knight in 2003. Since then, they have produced and are currently working on numerous titles by several bestselling authors including Laurell K. Hamilton, Charlaine Harris (HBO’s True Blood), Orson Scott Card, Raymond E. Feist, Robert Jordan, Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Tad Williams, Robert Silverberg.
Dabel Brothers Publishing has worked with Image Comics, IDW, Marvel Comics, Random House, Harper Collins, Hasbro and Paramount Pictures.
