DWAS: Doctor Who 70-79 book available now in print

The Doctor Who Appreciation Society has released Doctor Who 70-79, a full-colour hardback publication that looks at the decade of the Third and Fourth Doctors, played by Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, through a series of detailed essays on topics from how a line of dialogue in 1969 changed the programme irreversibly, to the circumstances that made the series a national talking point as the 1980s dawned. It includes an item on the first Marvel UK Doctor Who comic strip, “The Iron Legion“, by Paul Scoones, and “recollections” with Doctor Who Weekly‘s creator, Dez Skinn.

Contributors include Doctor Who Magazine writer Simon Guerrier, Reeltime PIctures producer Keith Barnfather, former DWAS coordinator Tony Jordan, archivists John Preddle and Paul Scoones, writer, occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington, and many more, some items taken from the organisation’s extensive archives.

Along the way it discusses Liz Shaw, the Blinovitch Limitation Effect, Weetabix, Doctor Who and the Pyramids of Mars, teatime brutality and the first Marvel UK Doctor Who comic strip, “The Iron Legion”, which first featured in Doctor Who Weekly. Plus from the DWAS archives, interviews with the late Caroline John, Terrance Dicks and Mary Tamm.
