Egmont Publishing recently launched a new magazine inspired by the Disney Channel’s original movie, Descendants, coinciding with the release of the follow up, Descendants 2, released on 20th October.
The original movie, which has a huge fan base, followed the story of a cast of teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most iconic villains, starring Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Cameron Boyce and Booboo Stewart as the wicked children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil and Jafar.
Descendants 2 added the likes of China Anne McClain who plays Uma, the daughter of The Little Mermaid’s Ursula and her pirate crew: Scottish actor Thomas Doherty as Harry, the son of Captain Hook (from Peter Pan) and Dylan Playfair as Gil, the son of Gaston (Beauty and the Beast).
Disney Descendants magazine, aimed at over sevens, joins numerous other Egmont Disney-inspired titles such as Disney Princess, Frozen and more and will deliver gossip, exclusive interview content, fashion tips, posters and quizzes, along with a free gift each issue.
Additional Descendants franchise activity launched to support the movie sequel includes an annual, also published by Egmont, new merchandise across Disney Store and multiple licensees, an official soundtrack, animated shorts and an extensive digital content plan.
Music videos on DisneyMusicVevo have garnered over 450 million global views to-date, including almost 125 million views for the official ‘Ways to be Wicked’ video.
Kiran Vara, publisher, Egmont Publishing said: “We are delighted to be launching the official Descendants magazine, which will give fans the opportunity to get even closer to the movie. The magazine will be packed full of exclusive interviews, activities, quizzes and fashion tips that will give readers the opportunity to enjoy the magic of the movies, time and time again.”
Siobhan Geraghty, senior publishing manager, Disney UK said: “Children up and down the country have established a real affinity to Disney’s Descendants and along with having a favourite character, there is a real passion felt for the music, the dance routines and the costumes, which are so intrinsic to the success of the movie.
“The launch of the Descendants magazine is a fantastic way to give fans of the franchise another outlet in which they can enjoy catching up with their favourite villainous characters with their family and friends and truly immerse themselves in the magical world of Auradon”.
Panini UK previously published Descendants-inspired magazines as part of its Disney Presents title back in 2015 and the films have inspired plenty of coverage in other magazines, including the UK’s Go Girl and the US magazine Tiger Beat.
• Descendants magazine, on sale in newsagents and supermarkets across the UK, is a four-weekly magazine priced at £3.99 for standard issues and £4.99 for high value issues
