The Commando Calendar 2023, out on 1st August 2022, is available to pre-order now, either direct from publisher DC Thomson Media, or your preferred book retailer – and we’ve got an exclusive look at this year’s courtesy of the team on the long running title.
Since its first issue in 1961, Commando has brought its readers thrilling tales of heroism, valour and comradery. Still in print today, with eight issues published every four weeks, Commando is the longest-running British war comic ever.
From its debut, Commando has been well regarded for its stunning artwork with subjects spanning land, sea and air and this collection of covers features a mixture of pieces curated by Commando‘s designer, Grant Wood, focusing on aviation covers from the modern era of the title.
Featured are 16 covers from some of the world’s greatest ever comic artists, including Neil Roberts, Carlos Pino, Keith Burns and, of course, the much-missed master, Ian Kennedy – as well as a special pull-out poster, “Escape from Java“, the cover of Commando 5511, by Keith Burns.
This is a great-looking edition of the Commando calendar, so dion’t miss out if you’re a fan of the comic – or aviation art.
Colourful and full of charm, don’t miss out, either, on the official Oor Wullie Calendar 2023, containing fantastic work from artist Dudley D. Watkins, featuring Scotland’s most famous family. Plus, enjoy all the charm and laughs at Glebe Street with The Broons Calendar, too!
