William ‘Will’ Simpson, the lead storyboard artist behind the TV adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s fantasy epic, Game of Thrones, is the latest guest to be announced in a stellar line up for this year’s Portsmouth Comic Con – International Festival of Comics on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May at Portsmouth Guildhall.
Northern Irish creator Will’s career can be divided into two parts. He began his professional work drawing for British anthology Warrior as well as “Judge Dredd” and “Rogue Trooper” in 2000AD before moving on to illustrate DC’s Hellblazer, Aliens for Dark Horse and Vamps for Vertigo Imprint.
When the Northern Irish Film and TV industry took off Simpson switched to working in that creative arena and since 2013 has been the lead artist for HBO’s Game of Thrones series which draws to a close with its final season starting on our screens in April.
Attending Portsmouth Con with a series of framed Game of Thrones artwork pieces, the images add to an impressive range of exhibitions recently announced including a stunning collection celebrating Batman’s 80th Anniversary and a number of signed limited edition pieces inspired by Stan Lee and created by Alex Ross from Westover Gallery.
Simpson joins some of the biggest names in comics from across the globe attending the event, including Roy Thomas, Steve Englehart, Tommy Lee Edwards, Tomm Coker, Declan Shalvey, The Etherington Brothers, Kieron Gillen and many, many more.

Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
