Bournemouth-based Imagine Publishing , the publishers of SciFiNow, has launched Uncanny Comics, the a digital-only comics magazine designed specifically for the growing digital comics market.
Available on Apple’s Newsstand from only £0.69/$0.99 and released 12 times a year, the company says Uncanny Comics “fresh and fun” coverage of the best new and classic comics directly drives readers to the Comixology and Marvel Unlimited apps and will act as the perfect gateway to the often overwhelming wealth of content now available on smartphone and tablet.
“With superhero movies at the height of their powers and digital comics opening up the marketplace to new readers, lapsed readers and geeks who simply can’t get enough, the world was crying out for Uncanny Comics,” said Editor James Hoare.
“This new launch celebrates all that’s weird and wonderful about comic-books, and what’s more, once you’ve read the feature, interview or preview; you can then read the comic itself!”
“It wasn’t enough that Uncanny Comics look good and be full of incredible art,” said Art Editor Stephen Williams. “We worked hard to make Uncanny Comics a part of the adventure, echoing the bold and brash design aesthetic of Silver Age comics and experimenting with the layout to create a true digital publishing experience that really shines on iPhone and iPad.”
Developed by the team behind SciFiNow, Uncanny Comics follows the groundbreaking subscription model pioneered by Imagine Publishing’s Brain Dump and builds upon a strong digital year for the SciFiNow brand which has seen traffic to SciFiNow.co.uk increase by over 150 per cent.
Imagine Publishing is one of the UK’s fastest-growing multimedia content producers. Formed in May 2005, they now publishe 21 regular print magazines, 30 digital apps, 25 websites, over 300 bookazines and thousands of articles every month in the technology, knowledge/science, videogames and photography markets. An Imagine magazine is purchased every ten seconds.
