Independent publisher Breakdown Press has announced a reprint of The Will O’The Wisp by Josephine M.K. Edwards, after its first run sold out.
Run by Simon Hacking, Tom Oldham and Josh Palmano, Breakdown Press is a London-based comics publisher, dedicated to publishing the very best in comics art, whether the cutting edge work of new cartoonists or undiscovered classics of the past.
Last year they sold out of The Will O’The Wisp, a bewitching and strange tale by cartoonist and musician Josephine M.K. Edwards (aka JMKE), so a fresh re-print is now available.
A ghoulish orb named ‘The Will- O’-The-Wisp’ flickers from the wick of Earth’s lantern in the midst of a barren void. The glimmer offers salvation to the hopeless, wayward traveller in the form of a point of reference.
Disguised as The Northern Star or a guardian angel, the bioluminescent ghost is born from the oxidation of phosphine (PH3), diphosphane (P2H4) and methane (CH4), which is released from the decay of organic matter. Like a mosquito to a zapper, the hopeful traveller is drawn towards the glowing siren, who hovers over deep bogs, swamps and marshes. Here, the traveller’s journey concludes, feeding the ghostly light…
“From murderous teenagers to deranged eyeballs, the visuals in Josephine Edwards’s comics are gross, funny, and, as she describes them, pure evil,” notes Elephant Magazine.
Her new psychedelic work is out soon – the strange tale of a girl tied to a peg in a field with a horse.
