Zineophilia, Leeds’ Zine friendly Social Club for Zine Makers, Zine Lovers, and the Zine Curious, has announced they’ll be taking over Left Bank Leeds to bring you Stapled, a celebration of the world of independent print in August.
The Zineophilia team tell downthetubes they’re aiming to make a home for the unique, creative voices that might get overlooked in the current creative landscape.
“Whether this is in the world of comics or zines, our ethos remains the same,” they say, “a place for everyone, no matter how distinct, niche, or downright weird the things you make might be.
Running over Sunday 25th – Monday 26th August 2024, across the bank holiday weekend, the event will be open on both days from 11.00am until 5.00pm, at the historic Left Bank Leeds.
“We will be packing the converted church with creatives from Yorkshire and beyond.
“Tickets are free, and we have some ticket packages with T-Shirts and Tote Bags to help support the event. Keep an eye on our social media for ticket availability.
“On our first day we will be hosting a comic convention focused on spotlighting the best people working in the scene right now. On the second, we will be hosting a zine and print fair, moving away from the more traditional elements of the sequential narrative. Our aim is to represent every corner of the small press community and not be limited by genre, topic, or style.”

“We want you to know that no matter what you make we will consider you. Our only requirement is that the focus of your table is either comics or zines. It’s a party – and you’re invited.”

John is the founder of downthetubes, launched in 1998. He is a comics and magazine editor, writer, and Press Officer for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also runs Crucible Comic Press.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics; and has edited several comic collections and graphic novels, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”, and Hancock: The Lad Himself, by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page.
He’s the writer of comics such as Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs”, with Dave Hailwood.
