This bundle includes the CORGI – RT26701 Batmobile with Batman and Robin, a 1:43 Scale Die-cast model, and the Scalextric – C4175 Batmobile, based on the car from the 1966 TV Series – a 1:32 Scale Slot Racing Car.
The Scalextric slot car of the 1960s Batmobile, available separately, captures the shape of this iconic car and offers Batman fans from around the globe the opportunity to take Batman to the track. This car comes complete with a detailed Batman figure in the driver’s seat.
As we previously reported, the new CORGI RT26701 Batmobile, scheduled for release next month, is based on the later version of the CORGI Toys 267 Batmobile, featuring all the classic gadgets of the original including firing rockets, a pop out chain slasher blade, and the added Batboat tow hook, not a feature of the original release, suggesting a modern model of that must surely be in the works. This release features gold wheels with red bat logos, plus Batman and Robin figures – Batman in grey, as per the original issue – and comes in classic recreation packaging.
The Batmobile was introduced into the Corgi range in October 1966, after the popularity of the 1966 Batman TV series starring Adam West (as Batman) and Burt Ward (as Robin). With a wealth of features – notably a triple rocket launcher armed with small plastic missiles, a front-mounted pop-out chain cutter and a turbo exhaust flame that pulsed in and out – the model was an instant success and has since achieved legendary status among collectors.
Updated versions followed, including, eventually, the edition with a tow-hook to pull the Batboat (Corgi No. 107) on its trailer. (A black plastic trailer coupling released, that pushed on over the early edition’s Batmobile’s exhaust, often got broken or lost, so wasn’t an ideal solution. They’re now quite rare).
The new release comes complete with its late 1960s-era packaging – a classic illustrated Corgi picture box that houses the model sitting on a plinth with decorative winged sides and back – a beautifully created facsimile of the original. Within the base are twelve small missiles for the fully working rocket launcher, plus an envelope containing an instruction sheet as well as that all important Batman lapel sticker!
