Malta Comic Con organisers Wicked Comics have announced a number of new British guests for this year’s event in November – and the launch of both super discounted Sonic Saver Tickets and the debut of a new admission offer for 2019, the Super Hero Pack Ticket.
Sonic Saver Tickets, available only from the event’s web site for a limited time only, cost 10 Euros for one day and 14 Euros for two day.
Taking place between Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd November 2019, the latest guests to be announced are British creators Nigel Parkinson, Ian Richardson, Mark Stafford and Nigel Twumasi, plus Nikos Koutsis from Greece and Ferran Rodriguez Sanchez from Spain.
Nigel Parkinson’s many credits include the Beano’s “Dennis the Menace”, “Bash Street Kids”, “Bananaman”, “Roger the Dodger” and “Minnie the Minx” – and he’s drawn most other Beano and Dandy characters at some time or other.
Ian Richardson is a comic book penciller, inker and cover artist, best known for his work across several publishers, working on titles from 2000AD, Image Comics, Marvel UK/Panini, Dark Horse Comics and Zenescope Entertainment amongst others. He’s particularly known for his work on Noble Causes, “Sinister Dexter”, “Judge Dredd”, Halo, Grimm Fairy Tales, Evil Heroes and The Black Sable.
Ian is currently working for 2000AD on “Judge Dredd” and is the regular cover artist for Zenescope Entertainment across their Grimm Fairy Tales, Wonderland, Evil Heroes, Spirit Hunters, Black Sable, Peek-A-Boo, Crown of Kings titles and more.
Mark Stafford is a London-based cartoonist and illustrator, who after years of toiling in the small press salt mines, co-created the Dark Horse graphic novel Cherubs! with Bryan Talbot. Since then, he has made beer labels, theatre posters, graphics, record covers, and gallery show pieces, as well as a steady stream of self-penned strips for various anthologies.
A project in collaboration with the British Council/Arts Council Korea in Busan resulted in the short book Kangkangee Blues, launching in English at this year’s Lakes International Comic Art Festival and available at Malta Comic Con. His fruitful partnership with writer David Hine has so far produced a version of Lovecraft’s “The Colour Out of Space” (for The Lovecraft Anthology Volume One), the BCA short-listed Victor Hugo adaptation The Man Who Laughs, and the folky “tale of rural unease” Lip Hook, all for publisher SelfMadeHero. Their creepy serial The Bad Bad Place is about to be collected into a hardcover by Soaring Penguin.
Nigel Twumasi is the co-founder of Mayamada, a London-based manga brand featured in NEO Magazine, Mashable, Bleeding Cool and the BBC among others. They have exhibited at comic conventions across the UK, Europe, and the United States. They will be bringing their brand new manga, Hot Lunch Volume One, to Malta Comic Con for the first time, after being successfully funded on Kickstarter.
Nikos Koutsis has been the artist on the Errand Boys mini-series (Image Comics), Mighty Man One-Shot (Image Comics) and Stretch Armstrong mini-series (IDW) and is the colourist on books such as Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon, Invincible, Image United, 50 Girls 50, Angry Birds, Transformers and much more. In addition, he teaches a Comics Workshop at Vacalo Art & Design College and co-ordinates AthensCon.
Ferran Rodriguez Sanchez got his first non-wildlife job designing and colouring for “Sonic the Hedgehog” magazine and around the same time he started inking Daniel Branca’s Donald Duck stories. Following this, he started to ink and pencil on numerous projects for Disney and its various licensees across the world.
Besides working on his own characters and projects Ferran’s career includes work for many popular licenses which include Horseland (DIC), TMNT, Dora the Explorer, Umi Zoomi Team, Bubble Guppies and Butterbean Café (Nickelodeon), Angry Birds 2D/3D (Rovio/Kaiken), LEGO and LEGO Friends (LEGO), DC Superhero Girls (DC/Warner Bros) and Trolls (Dreamworks/Universal), amongst several others.
In addition to this, he has just started working for Star Wars (Disney/Lucas Arts) licensees.
Joining these international guests there are a number of local artists exhibiting: Naomi Montanro Delia, an aspiring character concept artist; Martine Ciantar, a freelance artist working on creating logos, character design, mascots and more.
Matthew Theuma Fontebrera will also join the Malta Comic Con for the third year, showcasing various works and a new upcoming artist at the event is is Negai Galea, an MCAST student and artist who has been a helper at the Comic Con for some years as well.
Also new is Marz Timms, a young artist who loves to work using traditional media, usually being black ink or watercolours.
