Margate, Kent, is to be the location for a new Marvel and DC Comics-themed Comic-Con at Quex Park, Birchington, on Sunday May 22nd 2022.

No comic creators being lined up for the event in early social media teasers have been named, but Gerald McCarthy, of the Bay Promo Team, who has been promoting the event, has been organising regional airshows, music events, comicons, exhibitions for a number of years.
Organisers MDC Events are offering “an array of life-sized Avenger and DC busts, a huge selection of Marvel replica props and full size DC vehicles, amazing cosplayers the kids will love, a Guardians of the Galaxy-themed stage with Starlord DJ playing mix tapes 1 & 2, extremely rare first edition Marvel & DC Comics, comic book artists, Marvel-themed activities; a Marvel & DC Gamerbus plus retro zone, Marvel & DC merch stands, plus food court, licensed bar and lots more,to be announced soon.”

The BayPromoTeam promoting this event are a collective of like-minded volunteers, using their spare time and skills to help boost Herne Bay and community spirit. Past events they’ve organised are extremely varied, large and small, but have included seven SciFi by the Sea annual events, ThroneFest (a Game of Thrones event) and more.
Quex Park is an historic country estate of over 1800 acres in Birchington-on-Sea on the stunning Kent coast near Margate. It’s been developed as a leisure and tourism destination over a number of years. Attractions include a Children’s Indoor and Outdoor Play Centre, a Craft Village, Quex Paintball, Build-a-base, Lazer Rush, Farmshop and Restaurant and in the summer, a giant Maize Maze.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
