In comic book stores this month (and also available through Amazon and other online store) is Mercy Thompson: Hopcross Jilly from Dynamite, a hardcover collection of the full six-issue mini series written by Rik Hoskin from a plot by New York Times best-selling author Patricia Briggs.
Mercy Thompson: Hopcross Jilly follows the titular heroine, a shape-shifting coyote and honorary member of the Tri-Cities werewolf pack. When her pack stumbles upon the buried bones of numerous dead children, Mercy finds herself drawn into a mystery of the legendary fae… one that may result in her death.
Mercy’s step-daughter, Jesse, takes her place in the spotlight for the first time in this graphic novel.
Rik Hoskin is a UK-based writer of comics and science fiction novels whose comics work includes writing Superman, Star Wars, Doctor Who and various DreamWorks characters including Shrek. He’s helped develop a successful Spider-Man title aimed at younger readers, and has written approximately 400 stories for Disney.
Besides Mercy Thompson, he’s currently writing two other projects for Dynamite.
As a novelist, he has written over twenty books, the majority under the pen-name James Axler. Writing under the name James Axler, Rik has been the primary writer of the Outlanders series since 2007.
“The collected edition includes my original script for #1,” Rik tells us, “so those who are interested can see how I write these things.”
“Rik Hoskin, Tom Garcia and I have put together a creepy little tale for readers enjoyment,” said author Patricia Briggs of the story last year. “Tom’s art is just the right feel for this story and Rik shares my fondness for horror and humour. It was a project that is better than any of us could have done alone. I am delighted with the results.”
