The latest issue of the Airfix Collectors’ Club‘s Constant Scale journal, No. 91, is available now and features a number of articles from downthetubes contributor Jeremy Briggs.
The issue offers a Roy Cross Commemoration feature, marking the passing of the acclaimed artist.
Of particular interest to art and illustration fans will be Jeremy Briggs’ interview with BR Southern Region and London Transport modeller Kim Durose. In 2006, he was working at at Final Films, the packaging designer who, when Hornby Hobbies bought Airfix, had to recreate all the box packaging when Hornby did not receive the design files for the kit boxes.
“Happy days, jumping out of bed every morning to do something creative in a market I love,” Kim recalls on LinkedIn. “Great opportunity to meet some of the finest minds in that organisation too.”
Today, Kim, who ascribes his love of model building to his grandfather, owns 12A Models, who produce unique and interesting 3D printed components and kits for railway modellers, for all regions and scale. He’s also part of the team behind Milepost 28 Modelling, a resource for Railway Modellers of the British Rail “Blue Era”.
Also included in this issue of Constant Scale are two photo features, one on Jeremy’s Britfix Balsa Cement metal display sign from the early 1950s, and the other on some early 1960s Airfix railway kits he found in a bargain bin at a recent toy fair!
Plus, there’s a review the 1961 Betta Bilda Building Set 1 from 1961, Airfix’s Lego equivalent.
Constant Scale is only available from the Airfix Collectors’ Club. Back issues, both print and e-copies, are also available. The club subscription for 2024 has not changed from 2023 and is £20 UK, £30 Europe, and £35 ROW.
