Colouring Heaven magazine has launched a new paid-for newsletter, dedicated to giving colourists even more chances to discover new illustrators and artists.
The Discovery Club weekly newsletter will feature a new artist every Friday, including an exclusive design to download and colour, an artist interview, and extras like discount codes for the artists designs.
It’s an interesting way to boost an art-led brand. Perhaps comics publishers could try it?
The first issue spotlights Rob Roskam, a Dutch illustrator who specialises in botanical designs, whose work also features in the new Colouring Heaven Collection: Botanics, on sale now from publisher Anthem in newsagents and supermarkets.
After graduating from art school in the Netherlands, Rob worked in the graphic industry for a number of years, then emigrated from the Netherlands to British Colombia, Canada in 2009. While specialising in botanical art for his colouring books, Rob’s biggest inspiration is nature, and anything in it.
“I’ve been drawing my whole life, and tried many mediums, but nothing really worked for me,” he says. “I decided to stick with what’s most comfortable for me, and that is just black pen on paper. I hope [readers] will enjoy [my colouring books] as much as I did creating them.”
The Discovery Club newsletter – available to subscribe here – costs £3.98 per month.
With only 13 issues of Colouring Heaven per year, and hundreds of artists hoping to be featured in the magazine, Braintree-based publishers Anthem – whose magazine titles also included Classic Pop, Long Live Vinyl, Simply Vegan, Ultimate Dot 2 Dot and Vintage Rock – see Discovery Club as a way to introduce as many emerging artists as possible.
“I am so happy to finally be able to get more fantastic artists into the spotlight,” says Jenny Cook, Creative Director of Colouring Heaven.
“Every month it is so difficult to choose just one to highlight in the magazine, so with Discovery Club our audience can meet many more talented artists and get to know their work.
“We’re excited to get going with this new venture and get more people involved with the Colouring Heaven brand.”
