DC Thomson and Panini UK have both launched new girls titles this week – Sweet and Disney’s Eleanor of Avalor, the latter based on the animated series screened on the Disney Channel.
DC Thomson say their title, Sweet, which includes a mini comic strip by Laura Howell, is intended for primary girls “who love collectibles, shopping, and all things cute”.
The 36-page monthly is aimed at girls aged six to ten and focuses on the latest brands such as Trolls, Num Noms, Animal Jam, in the same way DCT’s EPIC and Egmont’s TOXIC features items aimed primarily at boys.
Sweet Issue One is out now and comes bagged with several gifts; Animal Jam in game unlock, Shopkins trading cards, and lip glosses.
DC Thomson’s General Manager, Mike Watson, said, “We’re thrilled to be launching in the primary girls’ market and expanding our portfolio.
“The magazine sector is not one to stand still, much like trends in children’s lives. This magazine is a great opportunity to capture everything current and popular, and pull it together for readers to enjoy.”
Maria Welch, Head of Publishing for Magazines at DC Thomson, said, “We have an enviable track record of launching successful magazines in this constantly evolving market and are delighted to extend our award-winning, primary girls’ portfolio with Sweet.
“We’re confident that combining the hottest licensed brands with the experience and passion of our editorial team will produce an exciting and engaging magazine.”
Disney’s Elena of Avalor from Panini UK is a brand new magazine following the story of Elena, the new Crown Princess of Avalor.
