Pat Mills is to give a talk for Birmingham’s Creative Networks next week (Thursday 25th February).
Pat is a UK comic legend – described by some as the ‘Godfather of British comics’, he was an integral part of the UK comics scene in the 1970s and 1980s and was part of the creative teams that bought to life some of the most Iconic British comic book characters such as Judge Dredd, Marshall Law, Slaine and Nemesis the Warlock.
Renowned for his hard hitting action/adventure strips, most notably “Charley’s War” for Battle, he bought a dark edged anti-authoritarian realism to British comics that ranged from titles such as Action (which he created) Battle and 2000AD where his pushing of creative boundaries and social commentary caused the book to initially be banned in the UK.
Birmingham-based Creative Networks will be hosting an event where he will be talking about his comic legacy, his career and his classic strip “Charley’s War”, co-created with artist Joe Colquhoun – as well as the impact the books had on the public as well as the themes and ideas of strips that still resonate today.
While working in conjunction with BCU Pat will also be mentoring students on a new ‘reloaded’ reinterpretation of “Charley’s War” – and as part of the event we will be showcasing the collaborative work that both Pat and BCU students worked on during the weeks’ worth of filming, recording and workshops.
Creative Networks brings together all parties involved in screen and sound media in the West Midlands, promoting both successful business development and collaboration.
