Slough Museum hosts two-day “Art of Thunderbirds” event

Slough Museum - Art of Thunderbirds - 7th - 8th June 2025

Following last year’s very successful Thunderbirds Memories Weekend, Slough Museum is staging another free weekend for fans of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s landmark series, which was filmed just up the road on SEGRO’s Trading Estate between 1964 and 1966.

The Art Of Thunderbirds, taking place Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June 2025, will feature artwork, models and puppets showcasing the groundbreaking visual design created for the series, with illustrator Graham Bleathman making an appearance on Sunday 8th June. (Graham will also be at Boom!, a one day event organised by Cygnus Alpha, at the Macbeth Centre in Hammersmith, London, the filming location of Remembrance of the Daleks on Saturday 7th June, in part a a book launch for Sophie Aldred’s new book Ace Jacket, for which he contributed an illustration. Tickets are limited to just 125 people, the line up also including a host of Doctor Who luminaries).

The Art of Thunderbirds exhibition includes art from the “Thunderbirds” strip by Frank Bellamy, first published in the groundbreaking weekly comic, TV Century 21. There should also be puppet and model displays – and Virgil should be attending in Thunderbird 2!

Slough Museum - Art of Thunderbirds - 7th - 8th June 2025

The Museum has a permanent exhibition dedicated to Thunderbirds, showcasing behind the scene model making, filming and Thunderbird paraphernalia. (Exhibition by appointment only, according to the website).

Slough Museum Trust was founded in 1982 by a group of local people who wanted to create a Museum to share knowledge about local and general history, topography and archaeology of Slough and surrounding districts.

Its mission today is to build a sense of pride in Slough, developing imaginative and inclusive projects and displays and encourage people to share their stories and knowledge of Slough as a place of pioneers and innovators.
