If you’re a fan of fantasy adventure, then you will definitely be wanting out to check out Embers, the latest stunning 144-page, full colour graphic novel from the hugely talented Lyndon White, coming soon to Kickstarter.
For those disturbingly unfamiliar, Lyndon is a UK-based international selling artist, writer, letterer and designer whose work such as the astonishing, best-selling combining monsters and magic. His work is highly acclaimed and has deservedly been described as “beautifully haunting”, especially his best-sellers, Antarctica, Candles, Sparks and the Fallen Star and the Reanimator series.
He has been published by Image Comics, Top Cow Productions, Titan Comics and Blue Fox Comics, run over 60 successful Kickstarter campaigns, and teaches Sequential Arts at Salford University. As a designer, he’s worked for a huge range of clients. Including Twitch, Savvy Games, Historic Royal Palaces and the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, creating the dragon knockout poster for their inaugural Barrow Does Comics event.
Embers, coming soon to Kickstarter, is his latest graphic novel. It’s an original fantasy story that sees the return of the flamboyant sorcerer, Idris introduced in Candles, published by Cast Iron Books in 2021, about magic, monsters and the cost of forgiveness.
It’s the first, of a two-part, graphic novel series, the artwork is complete, and Lyndon is seeking to raise £8000 to fund the print run of the first book, while he starts artwork production on Book Two at the end of 2026.
Lyndon has given us a sneak peek of his captivating new adventure, and it’s no understatement to say that if you were left stunned by his skills on Candles, this new tale will not leave you disappointed. It’s a truly incredible work that will appeal to fantasy fans, a tale Lyndon “elevator pitches” as Sleepy Hollow meet Princess Mononoke, which doesn’t, in my humble opinion, even begin to do this original story the justice it deserves.
“In Candles, Idris was joined by his talented apprentice Ava,” Lyndon reminds us. “The two of them find themselves exiled from their home and try to save it from a nature plague, called Dark-bark.”
Now, Idris is back, in mortal danger once more.
“Embers is a little darker than Candles, but both
can be read separately and in any order,” Lyndon notes. “There’s more story to tell and Idris is at the heart of it.”
It’s too late for fairytales…
As faith in magic dwindles and dark forces stir, a Fire Demon stalks the land corrupting the townspeople of Wispmire into cinder and ash. After giving up on magic, Idris, a young wizard returns home to find a town cursed by old sins and in the protection of the mysterious Keeper of the Grove.
While some shun magic and others pay tribute to the Keeper, Idris must come to terms with his past and the town that banished him as a child. Will he forgive the people who caused him such pain? Or let revenge and hatred burn, and corrupt this wizards’ heart?
“At Embers’ core is a forced friendship, between Idris and Sigrid, as they try to save the townspeople of Wispmire from a fire demon,” Lyndon teases. “But who created this demon? Where did it come from?
“It’s a story full of twists and turns, as our two heroes get wrapped up in the dark history of the town and begin to question if everyone deserves to be saved…”
