Missing Dexter? Child’s Play a little too gentle for you? Did it need more laughs? Then Titan Comics have the graphic novel for you, on sale from Wednesday in all good comic shops: Norman: Teacher’s Pet by French artist Stan Silas – the continuing adventures of an a eight-year old psychopathic killer first published in France by Delcourt.
Inspired by his horror movie heroes Freddy Krueger, Jason Vorhees and Michael Myers, blonde-haired elementary school psychopath Norman brings murder to the schoolyard.
He looks so cute while burying his eviscerated friends in the sandbox, and The Life of Norman – released in English back in March by Titan – delivered humour as black as dried blood.
Now, the littlest psychopathic murderer is back in a second blood-stained volume of the hit horror comedy, as Norman goes on a field trip – one that not everyone will return from. Swapping the playground for the campsite, he journeys into the woods to toast marshmallows – and his classmates!
Born in 1977, Stan Silas started to draw at an early age and everyone around him predicted an artistic career. But as a student, he discovered that, apparently, being an artist is pretentious, about unknown stuff and eating pasta every day… So instead, he went to work in an office. While it seemed he’d completely rid himself of his artistic side, he plunged back into drawing in 2006 and created his comic blog, learning the basics of comics and gaining growing acclaim for his work.
The Life of Norman was released in France 2011 and, to date, Stan has penned five volumes in the series, and is currently working on a new saga, Biguden, a “tart comedy” that’s a great fusion of manga and bande dessines.
He has not eaten pasta.
