Regular downthetubes readers will recall we’ve previously plugged Fred McNamara‘s Spectrum is Indestructible book – an unofficial guide to all things Captain Scarlet – and it now has a December 2019 release date.

Spectrum is Indestructible – with the final cover
Publication faced one final hurdle, dependent on the number of advance orders publishers Chinbeard Books received, but with that potential barrier now surmounted this limited edition book is now on course for success….
In the aftermath of Thunderbirds, the twilight years of Supermarionation would commence with a disturbed, ruthless take on children’s science fiction entertainment – Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons.
Pop culture writer Fred McNamara captures over 50 years of Captain Scarlet history in Spectrum is Indestructible, a comprehensive and passionate celebration of the series.
With a cover designed by Robert Hammond, Spectrum is Indestructible is an unauthorised (but ITV supported) guide to the show, offering extensive reviews of all 32 episodes, in-depth retrospectives of the series’ spin-off media, interviews with people who worked on the series and more… basically, a book no Spectrum Agent, or Angel, should be without.
The book includes a foreword by New Captain Scarlet head writer Phil Ford, and an afterword by Gerry Anderson’s son and Anderson Entertainment head honcho Jamie Anderson.
Unboxing the plots, characters, themes, subtexts and production history that made Captain Scarlet a cult phenomenon, Spectrum is Indestructible is a heartfelt tip of the hat to Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s darkly adventurous War of Nerves.
Spectrum Is Indestructible is a special edition paperback, with a strictly limited print run.
If you’d like a copy of what Jamie Anderson, son of Gerry Anderson, says is “… an exhaustive examination of the series in a way that few would dare to tackle…”, then do pre-order a copy now.
Because Spectrum is Indestructible is an expensive book to produce, Chinbeard solicited pre-orders to be able to complete the print run – and rapidly achieved target. Look forward to seeing the title on sale from 13th December…
