ComicScene Magazine has announced they’re launching a one off special to support independent comic creators next month – The State of Independents Yearbook 2020, working in partnership with digital comic news site Pipedream Comics.
ComicScene has been supporting small press and indie creators over the last two years, sharing their work on newsstands in the UK and overseas. The team have been amazed by the range and quality of what is being created, making this an exciting time for comic books.
During the Coronavirus Pandemic crisis they have also launched their online Comic Creators Directory, as well as opening an online store for titles and sharing free indie comics too.
Now, working with Pipedream Comics, ComicScene is releaseing The State of Independents Yearbook 2020, a one off special celebrating the small press and indie creators and comics.
The magazine features reviews of the best in small press and indie comics, articles on Comic Conventions and the comic community, indepth articles on publishers and creators. If you’re a fan of indie and small press titles or simply want to know more about the sector, it sounds like this will be a useful reference work.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
