Fans of classic video games, and video game magazines may be interested in Tim Hall’s “Deadlinez”, a monthly comic strip created for Pixel Addict magazine.
“Deadlinez” and celebrates the “Golden Years” of British videogames publications, when the writers were considered rock stars by their audience.
The series follows the team at the fictional Hyper-Tech Magazine, led by their intrepid Editor Dez and his mission to establish the magazine as “the messenger of video games truth”.
As it turns out, this isn’t quite as easy as they hope, but Tim nails the atmosphere of the time in style!
“During lockdown, I found myself feeling nostalgic and walking past an old arcade every day gave me the urge to want to revisit this time somehow,” Tim, a Portsmouth-based storyboard artist and independent comic creator who’s worked in the business for twenty years now, tells downthetubes.
“Eventually the idea developed and once I’d finished Episode 1, I decided to contact Pixel Addict in the hope that it’d connect with their audience.
“Thankfully they liked it, and decided to include it in the publication.”
Regular readers may recall him for his independently published comic, Skragbeard, previously featured on downthetubes. Tim is working on Issue Three this adventure comic as time permits, and you can check out some of the latest art for the upcoming issue on his ArtStation, and find out more about the project on his Void Studios website.
Pixel Addict is the digital culture magazine for classic computing and retro gaming enthusiasts, a title that will take you back to the era of dial-up modems, floppy disks and dot matrix printers as the team reflect on the history of personal computing and its legacy today.
Available in select newsagents and on subscription, each issue focuses on the cultural impact of home computing with hardware profiles, interviews, vintage software and game reviews. Whether it’s the Apple II, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 or MS-DOS; Pixel Addict will share in your love of pioneering digital technology.
