Titan Comics has released a preview of a simply stunning-looking English language edition of Wikia by Thomas Day and Olivier Ledroit, due in March 2021 – a steampunk take on Grimm’s fairy tales.
Wika offers a steampunk-flavoured twist on everything you expect from a fairy tale – a dark tale of magic and mystery, with fairies, dwarves, goblins and elves, in a stunning epic fantasy world brought to life by Olivier Ledroit’s beautiful artwork.
In the opening story, after narrowly escaping an uprising that claims the lives of her parents, Wika, the last of a royal line of fairies, her wings cut to hide her true nature, must evade the assassins on her trail long enough to discover the secret of her lineage.
Heading to a city controlled by Prince Oberon, who was responsible for her parents’ deaths, she meets young Bran, a talented thief who, between thefts and scams, reveals the secrets of the city to her.
But little by little, Wika’s powers seem to develop, revealing her fairy nature, and arousing the interest of the tyrannical prince…
First published in French in 2014, four Wikia albums have been published so far, with art by Olivier Ledroit, a name downthetubes readers will recognise as co-creator of Requiem with Pat Mills. The series fast became a hit with French comic fans and has also been published in German.
