Titan Comics launches Vikings next week (Wednesday 27th April), based on the sensational MGM show which launched in 2013, and was recently renewed by the History channel for a fifth season of 20 episodes.
An Irish-Canadian co-production, the hit Vikings TV show was developed and produced by Octagon Films and Take 5 Productions and is inspired by the sagas of Viking Ragnar Lothbrok, one of the best-known legendary Norse heroes and notorious as the scourge of England and France.
Created by Emmy Award-winning Michael Hirst, the show centres on Ragnar (played by Travis Fimmel), a former farmer claiming to be a direct descendant of Norse god Odin, who rises to fame by successful raids into England, and eventually becomes king of Denmark, with the support of his family and fellow warriors: his brother Rollo (Clive Standen), his son Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig), and his wives — the shield maiden Lagertha (Kathryn Winnick) and the princess Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland).
The new Vikings comic is penned by Doctor Who scribe Cavan Scott, with art by Staz Johnson (X-Men, Spider-Man, Batman) and is set during season three of the TV show. In the first issue, Ragnar, Lagertha and their legendary kin sail once more for England and run straight into a shield wall of politics, intrigue, betrayal – and, of course, axe-wielding, blood-spraying, sword-swinging combat!
• Vikings, written by Cavan Scott, drawn by Staz Johnson, launches on 27th April and will be on sale in all good comic shops, including Forbidden Planet
• Vikings artist Staz Johnson will be appearing at The Birmingham Comics Festival’s convention this Saturday, 23rd April 2016. For more information visit: www.thecomicfestival.com
