The limited edition numbered hardcover omnibus of the second omnibus edition of the best-selling SF adventure classic The Rise and Fall of the Trigan Empire is now available to order direct from the Treasury of British Comics web shop.
Among the distant stars, fractious tribes come together to found a mighty empire that will wage war against aggressive kingdoms, battle alien invaders, and conceive of incredible new technologies…
A landmark in British comics history, painted by the legendary Don Lawrence in stunning, classic style, and springing from the grandiose pen of Mike Butterworth, The Rise and Fall of the Trigan Empire is an epic tale that creates a new far-future science fiction mythos that captured the imagination of a generation.
This is the second new Treasury of British Comics volume in the series collecting the series, printed in large format to showcase the lush fully-painted colour artwork, with a cover by Liam Sharp, who was one of Don Lawrence’s assistants.
This edition features an introduction from another Don Lawrence apprentice, Chris Weston (2000AD, The Twelve) and collects 11 stories: “The Three Princes”, “The Alien Dust”, “The Lost City”, “The Terror of Mount Spyx”, “The Invisibility Ray”, “The Ultimate Weapon”, “The Tyrant”, “The Red Death”, “The Puppet Emperor”, “The Five Labours of Trigo” and “The Brief Reign of Sennos the First”.
Collecting stories from Look & Learn cover dated 24th May 1968 – 7th November 1970 and the Ranger Book for Boys 1968, orders placed for the Limited Edition individually numbered hardcover of this second volume between now and the 30th September 2020 will guarantee a copy.
After the 30th September, there will only be a small number of copies left to order through the website. Orders will ship on the 4th December 2020.
Commenting on the release, Oliver Pickles, Graphic Novel editor at Rebellion, responded to questions about the reprinting later Trigan Empire stories in future by saying that the inclusion of non-Don Lawrence stories in these early volumes reflected efforts at “making them as complete as possible” – which is good news for fans of Oliver Frey‘s work on the long-running strip.
“The Rise and Fall of the Trigan Empure” ran for 17 years, coming to an end in 1982 – so if each book covers about two and a half years Lew Stringer has calculated there will be seven volumes – if they’re all the same number of pages.

Ordered straight away. Thought this was coming out in July 2021 next year, so it’s nice we’re getting this sooner. I presume the above image of the “Yeti” variant cover is for specialist shops like Forbidden Planet, and the “regular” cover is what we would be receiving, similar to volume 1.
Anyway, looking forward to receiving this in time for Christmas.
