Unity Wall art project launches at Lakes Festival this weekend

The team behind the The Unity Wall project, which intends to showcase the creative talent of artists from around the globe, will be on the hunt for artists interested in contributing to a unique comics project at this weekend’s Lakes International Comic Art Festival.

The Unity Wall is a project which intends to showcase the creative talent of artists from around the globe. Budding and established artists and community groups are being encouraged to get involved with this exciting project.

Participants will produce a piece of art or work inspired by the theme of Unity which will then be added to a cardboard brick on The Unity Wall.

The project launched in Kendal, Cumbria this month and plans include displaying the wall at art galleries and other venues around the county. There will also be a digital presence which will not only open up the project to creatives who work with sound and moving images etc. but it will also give the opportunity for artists to link a sample of their work, displayed on a brick, with their completed work online. For example, a writer may wish to include the beginning of a short story on a brick and share their completed story on our dedicated social media and wordpress site.

“This project is dedicated to my very close Uncle, Albert James Richardson, who sadly passed away in September 2018,” says project Director Simon Hart Richardson.

“The Unity Wall will be photographed at locations around the Lake District, Cumbria and areas in Lancashire.

“As time goes by the wall will change in appearance as artwork will be displayed on a rotational basis meaning that all contributors will have the opportunity for their work to be exhibited. We will also play around with different ideas to include different themes such as creating a wall which displays art that is all yellow etc.”

The Unity Wall team will be coming around with pieces of card and “instructions” on Saturday morning at the Festival, for those who are interested in taking part, and will pick up completed pieces in the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday – but if you would like to complete your piece at another time it will also be possible to send submissions via post or email at a later date. If you have time to complete something prior to the event then please see our wordpress site for more info.

“The possibilities are endless and we are accepting submissions from artists from across the globe,” says Simon. “Other walls may start popping up, inspired by the project, linking up to create a massive network of talented artists who are willing to get involved with exciting projects such as this one. After all unity is about more than one.
