There’s some great news for fans of 2000AD‘s Strontium Dog keen to see him on a big screen this morning. The stunning Search/Destroy: A Strontium Dog Fan Film, will be screened as part of London Super Comic Con later this month.
You can of course simply watch this brilliant fan project for free on YouTube, but it’s not quite the same, is it?
The team behind the project tell downthetubes the film be screened in the 500-seat room used for panels at the Islington Business Design Centre where the Comic Con will take place, on Friday 25th August at 5.30pm.
Search/Destroy: A Strontium Dog Fan Film is a short unofficial, not for profit project, based on the work of John Wagner, Carlos Ezquerra and Alan Grant. It was produced by the team behind the Judge Dredd-based fan film, Judge Minty, and follows Johnny and Wulf as they investigate a spate of Strontium Dog disappearances.
Matthew Simpson stars as Johnny Alpha and Kevin Horsham as Wulf Sternhammer, preview screenings and production images have received positive reactions from co-creators John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra.
The film received its premiere at 2000AD’s 40 Years of Thrill-Power Festival back in February and is now available to view online for free.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics; and has edited several comic collections and graphic novels, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”, and Hancock: The Lad Himself, by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page.
He’s the writer of comics such as Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs”, with Dave Hailwood.
