Jaws set to bite again with new t-shirts heading to UK stores

Look out for new t-shirt designs featuring Universal Pictures properties such as Back to the Future, Jaws, Despicable Me and more in British high street stores later this year.

Licensed clothing specialist Poetic Brands has just announced a new agreement to develop apparel based around Universal Pictures’ biggest brands, featuring iconic visuals from the film studios’ more than 100-year history. including Back to the Future, Jaws, Despicable Me, Trolls, ET and a wide selection of horror classics.

Perhaps we’ll even get some retro Bionic Woman or Six Million Dollar Man, too?

Founded in 1912, Universal is the oldest extant studio in the United States with a catalogue spanning from early silent hits such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Phantom of the Opera, right through to modern day global blockbusters such as How to Train Your Dragon, Minions and The Fast and Furious series.

Poetic Brands is part of the Hong Kong-based PDS Multinational Group, one of the world’s largest design, product development, sourcing, virtual manufacturing and distribution businesses for consumer goods – but operates as a single company that concentrates solely on licensed products. Back in 2017, it was nominated for the Best Licensed Adult Apparel Range for its Primark range featuring the cartoon cat, Pusheen.

“We are delighted to have signed this new agreement,” commented Poetic Brands Executive Director Elliott Matthews. “Universal is one the biggest names in the film world, with a huge breadth of classic brands in its portfolio.

“We can’t wait to get stuck in with creating apparel lines that will tap into this rich history.”

He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.

Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.

He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
