Travel & Vintage Posters includes film poster classics, too

Lyon & Turnbull’s next Travel & Vintage Posters auction, taking place on 28th October 2026 in partnership with Tomkinson Churcher, opens with an invitation to embark on a visual journey along the sun-drenched coast of the South of France.

Evocative vintage travel posters celebrate the glamour of the French Riviera, from the fashionable resort of Antibes and the picturesque coastline of Cannes to the excitement and elegance of Monaco.

Created to entice a new generation of travellers, these striking images capture the enduring appeal of the Côte d’Azur as a destination synonymous with sunshine, leisure and sophistication.

The sale also includes a private collection of original vintage film posters, featuring some of the great classics of European and Hollywood cinema. Highlights include Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita (1960), Jean Cocteau’s La Belle et la Bête (1946), Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief (1955), with its unforgettable French Riviera setting, and the James Bond classic The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), signed by Sir Roger Moore.

The auction coincides with the much-anticipated exhibition Painting the French Riviera at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, currently running until 31st January 2027, featuring works by Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, and more, exploring how the region developed into an internationally celebrated travel destination and film location, epitomising the style and sophistication of the mid-20th century.

Closer to home, the Irish coastline and countryside are equally well represented. Spectacular vintage posters feature Ross Castle and Killarney, Portrush, Blarney Castle, Co. Cork, and the magnificent landscapes of County Kerry, capturing Ireland at its most romantic and picturesque.
