ComicScene History of Comics Books 5 to 8

The crowdfunding campaign for the second stage of the ambitious ComicScene History of Comics part work project has three weeks to go on Kickstarter, with 50 per cent of funding gained so far.

This round is seeking backing for four further year-by-year bookazine-style publications, encompassing 1971, 1976, 1991 and 2020, with a plan to cover 100 years of comic history by its completion.

Each book features one year in comics – with recent history covered year by year, too, with covers from Flops Comics covers and the Burgh Agency, this Kickstarter also offers you the opportunity to catch up and get the first four books in the series featuring 1984, 1977, 1950 and 1986, and slipcases to keep them in. Potential perks also include a Comic Club membership card and number, access to the Comic Club online with 2000+ extra digital pages about comics and extra features on the History of Comics website that couldn’t fit into the books at www.comicscene.org.

Each perfect bound book is A4, full colour, 60 pages with optional slipcase that holds four books and feature articles on Culture and Comics, by leading comics archivist John McShane; “Top 10 Comics You Must Own”, alongside and reviews of comics, collections and books on comics from each featured year; “The Comic Museum”, curated by comics curio expert Richard Sheaf. , articles encompassing both comic memorabilia and fandom.

Alongside thee regular items, there’s a range of in-depth articles from creators, comic journalists, comic bloggers and comic academics, plus additional comic facts and further access to online material.

Plus, of course, an optional slipcase to keep four books in – and, if you haven’t already, you can get the ComicScene 2020 Yearbook as a perk, too.

The founder of downthetubes, John works as a comics editor, writer, as Creative Consultant on the Dan Dare audio adventures for B7 Media, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival.
