BritComicsArt offers more iconic “Forbidden Planet” art by Brian Bolland

Following up on the sale of Brian Bolland’s pen and ink advert for the New York City branch of Forbidden Planet which opened in 1981, BritComicsArt is now offering the art used to promote Forbidden Planet 2, the shop opened in 1982 on London’s St. Giles High Street, with a focus on movies and music.

The original advert for Forbidden Planet London also by Brian Bolland was hugely popular and he reprised the “People like us..” line from the first London advert, this one featuring the likes of Blondie, Clint Eastwood, Mick Jagger and Robbie the Robot.

The artwork measures 10 x 16 inches and comes from Brian’s personal collection. BritComicsArt are taking offers until 27th June 2021, with best offer of over £15,000.

The first iteration of the “People Like Us” campaign was as an ad for Forbidden Planet London, released in 1978, initially seen in magazine such as Starburst. It continues to be used to this day, offered on merchandise, including t-shirts and prints, on the Forbidden Planet web site.

As well as art by Brian, BritComicsArt also sells the art of a many other British comic creators, including Mark Buckingham, Alan Davis, Dave Gibbons, Sean Phillips, Richard Piers-Rayner, Frank Quitely and others.
