Glasgow comic makers documentary released

Independent film maker and director John Wilson has just released Independent Comics: Glasgow a short documentary exploring comic book writers based in Glasgow on YouTube, filmed in various locations and featuring interviews with Team Girl Comic‘s MJ Wallace and Roachwell creator Craig Collins.

“This in no way covers the diverse range of voices writing and drawing comics in Glasgow,” John insists. “Pick up something from the small press section, discover something new.” But despite his modesty it’s a great overview of some of the things happening, comics-wise in the city.

“I’m really happy with the feedback I’ve received on the doc,” he said on Twitter. “I’d love to return to this format/subject – so many opportunities for good stories.”

Filmed in City of Glasgow College and Geek Retreat, it also features art by Iain Laurie and ClaireArtStew.

John plans to post at least a single new video every week on YouTube either showing brand-new content or updating on the progress of ongoing projects. “There’s quite a few short films/skits/bits and pieces on the channel now,” he says, “but as I begin pre-production on a documentary very soon and continue to wrestle with AfterEffects there will be a lot more content.”
