So, you’d like to join the Cartoonists Club of Great Britain eh? Excellent! Being a member of our illustrious organisation gives you the opportunity to meet up with loads of cartoonists from all over the country.
The latest edition of The Jester, the journal of the Cartoonists Club of Great Britain, features a daft Dalek cartoon on its cover by John Landers.
Each month, members of the Club are set a challenge to come up with inspired by a particular theme – and John Landers , whose work has appeared in the Daily Mirror, Private Eye, New Statesman and more decided that Daleks was the best way to make something funny out of “SINK”!
The issue also includes an interview with cartoonist Ian Ellery, and a mix of cartoons and reviews, including a look at Physics for Cats by Tom Gauld, and tips from Rich Skipworth on using the digital draing app, Procreate.
Alongside magazine cartoons, John is regularly in demand producing cartoons in several specialists markets. Past projects include producing live caricatures for the web-based cartoon show Chattoon! John is the founder of downthetubes, launched in 1998. He is a comics and magazine editor, writer, and Press Officer for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also runs Crucible Comic Press.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine and Overkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics; and has edited several comic collections and graphic novels, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”, and Hancock: The Lad Himself, by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page.
He’s the writer of comics such as Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs”, with Dave Hailwood.
