A major new chapter in the StokerVerse is heading to retro gaming, as Dracula: Dark Reign takes the world of Scratch Comics’ Dracula The Return from comics into video game form.

Developed by Spacebot Interactive and released through Incube8 Games, Dracula: Dark Reignis a new Game Boy Color action-adventure that expands the mythology of Bram Stoker’s vampire in a way few adaptations have attempted.
The game is an official StokerVerse title and has been described as the first-ever Stoker family-authorised Dracula video game.

What makes the project especially notable for comics fans is that it is an offshoot of Scratch Comics’ Dracula The Return: Cult of the White Worm, the official comic book continuation of Bram Stoker’s classic novel, written by Dacre Stoker and Chris McAuley. That comic series brought Dracula back from the events of the original novel, using Stoker family legacy, Bram Stoker’s notes, and a fresh comic book sensibility to continue the story for modern readers.
For Chris McAuley, co-creator of the StokerVerse and co-writer of Dracula The Return, the game represents another important step in bringing the Stoker family’s authorised Dracula mythology into new formats. McAuley has helped develop the StokerVerse across comics, prose, games, and screen projects, and Dracula: Dark Reign shows how the world first expanded through Scratch Comics can now reach retro gamers as well as horror and comic book audiences.

Scratch Comics publisher Shane Chebsey also plays an important part in the identity of the project. Chebsey created the logo for both the Dracula The Return comic book and the Dracula: Dark Reign video game, giving the two projects a strong visual connection. It helps make the game feel like a true extension of the comic rather than a separate Dracula product.
The game explores aspects of Dracula rarely seen in other adaptations. Players experience Jonathan Harker’s escape from Castle Dracula and encounter the Count in the infamous “Red Room” scene, material omitted from the original published novel. Spacebot Interactive has stated that the game draws from Bram Stoker’s personal notes and includes elements never before seen in any medium.
From there, Dracula: Dark Reign moves forward into World War One, revealing what Dracula and his niece Carmilla have been doing in the shadows of history. This gives the story a broader historical sweep, moving from the Gothic terror of Castle Dracula into a world of war, bloodlines, hidden enemies, and supernatural survival.
Players will be able to select from a variety of characters, each with their own special abilities. This opens up different approaches to combat and exploration, while also reflecting the wider StokerVerse concept of Dracula as the centre of a much larger mythological world.
The game has already been receiving strong attention, with Retro Gamer magazine declaring it “Dracula finally done right” in a recent issue. For a character who has appeared in countless films, novels, comics, and video games, that is a striking endorsement.
Dracula: Dark Reign is also significant for British comics. It marks a rare recent example of a UK comic book property crossing into video game format, and it stands as a historical first as the first Dracula video game sanctioned by the Stoker family. That makes it important not just for retro gaming fans, but for anyone interested in the ongoing legacy of Bram Stoker’s creation.
For Scratch Comics, Dracula: Dark Reign proves that Dracula The Return has the strength to expand beyond the page. For Spacebot Interactive, it is a chance to bring Gothic horror to Game Boy Color with genuine literary and comic book heritage behind it. And for Dracula fans, it offers something genuinely exciting: a game that does not simply repeat the legend, but opens the doors Bram Stoker left closed.
• Fans can check out the game at the official Dracula: Dark Reign website and through Incube8 Games
Cult Of The White Worm is the first mini series in the official continuation of the classic novel Dracula by Bram Stoker. For the first time in literary history, a member of the Stoker family has written a comic script that officially continues the story of Dracula from the classic novel.
The story picks up from the end of the novel, and utilising Bram Stoker’s own notes, the iconic count is brought back to life in an authentic and faithful, yet fresh and exciting new way.
