21st Century Tank Girl book to launch at Lakes Festival, one month before book shop release

21st Century Tank Girl - Cover B

Writer Alan Martin and artists Warwick Johnson-Cadwell and Jonathan Edwards will be launching the 21st Century Tank Girl book at the Lakes International Comic Art Festival (16th – 18th October) in Kendal – well over a month before the collection is released in shops. And there will be some exclusive Tank Girl goodies on offer at the weekend for fans, too.

Tank Girl, the inspired creation of Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin, is a classically British cartoon institution: anarchic, absurd and absolutely brilliant. Driving a tank which is also her home, she’s declared an outlaw and embarks on a series of misadventures with her boyfriend Booga, a mutant kangaroo.

Tank Girl quickly became a cult classic in the 1990s and it has had a whole host of reincarnations over many years, the latest being the return of co-creator Jamie Hewlett (Gorillaz) to the character that made his name in 21st Century Tank Girl, published by Titan Comics, the work of  Alan Martin, Jamie Hewlett, Warwick Johnson-Cadwell, Philip Bond, Jonathan Edwards, Brett Parson, Jim Mahfood and Craig Knowles.

Featuring riotous 100 per cent original content from Hewlett and Martin along with contributions from a host of series stalwarts and newcomers, get your head down, put your hands over your private parts, and prepare for a chaotic collection of strips, pin-ups — and random carnage…

The exclusive signing precedes a special launch event at the Brwery Arts Centre on Saturday afternoon for the collection featuring Alan Martin, Jonathan Edwards and Warwick Johnson-Cadwell – all in conversation with Chris Thompson.

“The book has been printed a month and a half before its bookshop release, just for this event, so it’s a chance for fans to get their hands on it way before the official release date,” Alan tells us.

“I’ll be bringing along some exclusive Tank Girl items that I’ve had produced especially for the event for anyone attending.”

Booga!

• The exclusive signing will take place in the with a signing in the Comics Clock Tower in Kendal’s Town Hall at 2-3.00pm on Saturday, followed by the launch event discussion in the Brewery Arts Centre at 4.00pm.
